Artist's Statement – relating to Portishead Quays artwork: Carol Peace

My work has always been concerned with human form. Through drawing and painting my sculpture seems to have taken on more of the 'place', the environment in which this person exists and its relationship to it and others within it.

I wanted the commission for the ashlands area to be peacefully content; to emulate a feeling of intimacy, agreement, comfort and calm between the couple. A very precious state.

In recent years I was very interested in movement, elation and form; the surface was rough to emulate rhythms created by movement. Now felt experience is there as well as plains of light and textures.
